Taste and Traceability
At 1884 Wine & Tapas Bar we aim to create simple but varied menus. The dishes change regularly and support local suppliers by marrying their produce with imported Spanish delights.
Our Head Chef deals with the best and most reliable local suppliers and expects them to use local producers wherever possible.
Almost all of our meat comes from Andrew Little Ltd of Hedon, who bring pork from farmers in East Yorkshire including Anna’s Happy Trotters, and beef selected from farmers throughout Yorkshire. Venison comes direct from a local game dealer, and we also receive rabbit, pheasant, pigeon and more from a gamekeeper.
In common with many other restaurants in the region we buy cod from Simpson’s of Hull and other fish from Hodgson, a fifth generation business which sources direct from 15 small trawlers and shellfish boats operating along the east coast.
Compact Foods bring eggs from Elliotts in Bewholme, herbs from Herbs Unlimited near Thirsk and veg and salads from markets in and around Hull.
We buy flour from Skidby Mill and smoked duck and salmon from Staal Smokehouse in Long Riston.
Coffee comes from The Blending Room, a small independent roaster in Hull and a star of the local restaurant and markets scene.
For something stronger try the ales which are supplied – for drinking and cooking – by Atom Beers in Hull.
